Mermaid Pleasure Trips is a professional family run business sailing
out of the historic port of Penzance in Cornwall.
Your Skipper
Adrian Thomas has been at sea all his life - which is some time! Previously
he worked for Trinity House, Marazion Ferries and The Lifeboats. He
started at Trinity House in 1977, went up through the ranks to Bosun,
leaving in 2004 to run Mermaid Pleasure Trips full time with his wife
Vanessa. Having lived on St. Michael's Mount, Adrian is very knowledgeable
about the history of the Mount and surrounding areas. He takes great
pleasure in telling you stories of the Mount and various parts of the
fantastic Cornish coastline. During our Coastal Cruises he will probably
have you pulling up his lobster and crab pots along the way!
MV Mermaid II
Mermaid II was built in 1991 and is a Cygnus Cyfish. She cruises at
10 - 11 knots with the power to go 18 knots. She is 33ft long and 14ft
beam with 2.6ft draft. Her decks are sealed and clear so there is plenty
of room for people and/or equipment! The Mermaid has full marine mod
cons including 2 VHF radios, 1 Sailor radio and 1 ICOM radio, 1 GPS
and 1 GPS plotter, 1 echo sounder, 1 radar, a compass and a tanoid system.
There are 2 bunks on board and a w.c. Mermaid II is licensed to carry
35 passengers for cruising during the summer, however, for comfort we
carry 12-14 people for 8 hour fishing, and 18 for 4hr and 2hr fishing
trips. During the winter we are licensed for 12.
Mermaid Pleasure Trips & Safety
Aboard Mermaid II safety is our priority. We are licensed under
the Maritime Coastguard Agency and as such are closely monitored, surveyed
once a year and spot checked throughout the year. We carry a 30 man
life raft throughout the summer and a 12 man canopied life raft throughout
the winter. We carry 32 life jackets, appropriate flares and distress
signals. The Skipper and crew are fully trained and ticketed in first
aid and emergency procedures. We are also fully insured.
